When has Plan A ever worked?

I'm having my first sick day in six months today. Having successfully evaded Paz's cold for the duration of the Easter weekend, I returned to a freezing cold office at work, which gave the bugs the opportunity to catch me. *sniffle* Sudafed and lemsips are my friends today, and I now have time to do a little tab clearance and circle maintenance.

So, Thing the First: auburn recently requested prompts for a timestamp meme. And she wrote this snippet from the end of In the City of Seven Walls which remains my favourite SGA fic ever. I recommend you read the other snippets in the meme while you're there.

Thing the Second was found via metafandom and is The Broccoli Test. The degree to which John and Rodney passed this test would depend very much on who was writing them, I suspect. Sometimes they just totally get each other and sometimes they... don't. Let me know if you have a take on this.

Thing the Third is a fic by darkrose which makes my geeky heart happy: We Sang in Tune. My main geeky timesink, Raelynne, is a Fury, which is part-healer, part-nuker. Guess which bit I enjoy more. (I just have to pause for a moment to brag about the fact that I was 3rd Fury on my server to level 90. Thank you for your time.)

Lastly, a question: I've seen the phrase, "a lack of spoons" around the internets a lot recently. While I understand what it means from context, I have no idea where it came from or why spoons in particular. I think it's a phrase I could apply to myself some days, but I am unwilling to do so without understanding its origins. Any insights, flist?

I have three SGA fics and one Star Trek Reboot fic for your delectation.

First up, The Three Hunters by mirabile_dictu. This story comes with a kleenex warning but is so totally worth it in the end.

Second is another untitled BJ Friday fic by hestia_lacey. How does she get so much emotion into one scene? I am in awe!

Third is a cute fic by Punk, entitled Caught. This ends with a warm and fuzzy feeling, without being saccharine. Is nice :)

The Star Trek one is Kirk/McCoy, You Give Me Fever by ladycat and green. Kirk get personal treatment from his doctor...

Has fandom collectively made up its mind on an acronym or abbreviation for the Reboot yet?

I got home from London last night; my train ran about an hour later than scheduled. And the onboard wifi was less than effective. I think there was about 2 minutes where the router was connected to the outside world. Fortunately, I had expected this and had each page of Inukshuk by Murron open in tabs. 84,000 words kept me occupied and I liked the ending very much. This tale is very... very John and Rodney. Them being themselves, doing what they do, while it all goes to hell around them.

So, I am happy to be home with my wifi and my own mattress and Paz, who I have missed.

It was a good trip. I think I should make the effort to visit my London friends more often.

It's all caught up to me now and I'm very tired. The electricians and the plumber have been in and I now have spotlights in my bathroom and the bath is fitted! I think I'm going to head to Tescos to buy some bubbles...

I spent Monday and Tuesday off sick, so it was convenient that I'd discovered In the City of Seven Walls by Auburn the day before, via Necromancy for the Living, an alternative PoV for the story written by Icarus.

In the City of Seven Walls, with the additional PoV stories, comes to about 190,000 words of the most beautiful, heart-wrenching, powerful, vivid storytelling I've read in a long time. This story made me feel an amazing range of emotions, including hope and despair. I've spent most of the last two days thinking about it.

It's a slavery fic, and bits of it really ain't pretty, so you have been warned. But it is soooooo worth it. I think I'll be reading it again this weekend.

Many thanks to seleneheart for reccing Written By The Victors by written by Speranza. It's very long, and it takes a little while to get used to the style, but trust me, it is worth it! Sixteen pages of comments can't be wrong.

On a totally different note, we have The Schedule, which is (a comparatively short) 8000 words of amusing, sweet and very hot smut.
