Feb. 20th, 2007 08:24 pmSome random meta musings:
And a bit on life:
I don't usually post about RL on this LJ; I have another account for that. I have to keep them separate due to parents and relatives reading the RL journal. None of them need to know about my hobbies. But I spend so much more time on this LJ than the RL one that I thought I might as well start posting RL here too...
A lot has been happening recently. I found out my cat had cancer and two weeks after that had to put him down. That was hard work. And now I have a new job. It's easy, but I'm dying of boredom.
In theory, this is what I wanted, since I'm supposed to come home and write my thesis (which I detest), but unless things get a little more interesting I may just end up in a tedium-induced coma.
Of course, the worst thing is that I can't read fanfic in my lunch hour. Office is open-plan. Lots of ppl would notice. Dammit! Not even sure the servers will let me onto LJ. I can only get onto GMail at lunchtime. How militant is that??
- I know fanon!Dean is an artist. I've seen very few fics where he's anything but an artist. But is there any supporting canon for his vocation? Where did the concept originate from?
- I am a grammar and spelling Nazi. To the extent that I won't actually read a fic that has a typo or poor phraseology in the summary. Am I saving myself from grammatical torture or am I cheating myself out of some good fics?
- I really need to get on with reccing some stuff. I have a bookmarks list a mile long but I seem to spend all my time reading the fics and no time telling anyone about them. Yes, I know I'm rubbish! But I'm also reading a ton of WiPs right now, and I hate reccing WiPs, just in case they don't get finished or there's 6-month intervals between updates...

Date: 2007-02-20 11:29 pm (UTC)And I am not a grammar Nazi, because that would be way to pot/kettle, but I do the same thing with summaries. It's more of a "how much do they care if they don't at least check the summary for errors." And if you ever find me guilty of this just slap me silly!
And yeah, sorry about your cat. :(

Date: 2007-02-21 08:37 am (UTC)Are you going to be looking for new ones? There's a reputedly quite good cat/dog shelter in Longbenton just next to Sitel - they're good about keeping the animals healthy and happy in there too :)
As for the fic thing - I always forget to rec - am contemplating starting a new lj for that side of my life too, mainly cos most of the people on my flist don't want to see too much about the whole Harry/Draco or Jack/Daniel (or indeed John/Rodney...mmmmmm ahem...) thing (barring you and SolarCat anyway *grins*)
2# is a double-edged sword - yes, you're cheating yourself out of some *really* good fic ideas, but on the other hand, they're mostly so badly written that it's torturous to read the damn things in the first place...
...Any chance if I get round to writing some more, that you would beta me please? *snugs*
the job thing pretty much sucks though - but you're temping, I can honestly say (after years of doing that myself) that you cannot expect temping to be fun, or that you'll have *any* internet access (unless you get very lucky)...I tend to find Select Recruitment do good temping jobs as well though, they've usually managed to find me something to do...
